Shrewsbury Christmas Lights Switch-On

Release Date: 05/11/2008

Wednesday 19th November is the date Shrewsbury Christmas Lights will be switched on this year. The event is another aspect of the successful partnership between town traders and Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council that launched the high profile Shop In The Loop campaign earlier in the year.

The Severn radio station and members of the cast of this year’s Music Hall pantomime Robin Hood will be on stage to provide the family entertainment.

The fun starts in The Square at 5.30 p.m. with the all-important countdown starting just before 6.30 p.m.

To stage the event safely, there will be three road closures from 5.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.:

Wyle Cop (into town)
High Street from the junction of Wyle Cop
& Princess Street

Event Organiser, Jon King said:
“We’ve resisted the temptation to light up too early in Shrewsbury but the middle of November seems a good time and it coincides with the first late-night shopping Wednesday of the year. It’s a real family event and the entertainment we’ve laid on should get people in the Christmas spirit.”
