How is my bill calculated?

Your business rates bill is calculated by multiplying the Rateable Value applicable to your property by the National Non Domestic multiplier.

This figure is the amount payable prior to the award of any relief's or reductions.

Example:
£10,000 (rateable value) x 0.444 (multiplier) = £4,440.00

Multipliers

Schedule 7 of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 provides that multipliers will be set annually by the Secretary of State and they will be uniform across the Country except in those areas deemed a special Authority (City of London).

Below is a table showing the multipliers used since the 2005 Revaluation.

With the introduction of Small Business Rates Relief in April 2005 there are two multipliers, the standard non-domestic rating multiplier and the small business non-domestic rating multiplier.

Financial Year  Standard Multiplier  Small Business Multiplier
2007/2008  44.4p in the pound  44.1p in the pound
2006/2007  43.3p in the pound  42.6p in the pound
2005/2006  42.2p in the pound  41.5p in the pound

You can check the rateable value of a property by visiting the Valuation Office Agency website at http://www.voa.gov.uk
