Homelessness Review Committee
Following adoption of the new Housing Allocations Policy in September 2004, the Council has recently amended its Constitution to rename the "Housing Appeals Committee" to the "Homelessness Review Committee".
This has been done to reflect the revised role and jurisdiction of the Committee in reviewing homelessness decisions made by Officers and the suitability of accommodation allocated in accordance with the Council's Housing Allocations Policy.
The Committee hears cases where applicants are dissatisfied with the Housing Options Team's decision on their case. Homelessness determinations will be reviewed in accordance with legislation and the Housing Allocations Policy. The Committee may confirm, amend or overturn the Officer's decision. Where an offer of accommodation has been made, an applicant has the right to request a review by the Committee of its suitability for their household's needs. This applies whether or not the offer has been accepted.
The following eight Members have been appointed to serve on the Committee for the current year but only three attend for any one case:
- Councillor Mrs Jackie Brennand
- Councillor Ted Clarke
- Councillor Chris Freestone
- Councillor Mrs Yvonne Holyoak
- Councillor Mrs Kath Owen
- Councillor Malcolm Price
- Councillor Roy Sambrook
- Councillor Andrew Wagner
