Complaint About Member Conduct
Changes to the complaints procedure
Since 8 May 2008 the responsibility for considering complaints that a member may have breached the Code of Conduct has moved to the Standards Committees of local authorities.
What this means to you
After 8 May 2008 if you want to complain about the conduct of a member of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council or a member of one of our parish or town councils, you must submit your complaint to:
Mr G. White
Monitoring Officer
C/O The Assessment Sub-Committee
Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council
The Guildhall
Frankwell Quay
Shrewsbury
SY3 8HQ
A copy of the complaint form can be obtained from the above address or it is available to download from this website.
Please note that the Assessment Sub-Committee can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a member. It will not deal with complaints about matters that are not covered by the members' Code of Conduct.
If you make a complaint to the Assessment Sub-Committee it must be about why you think a member has not followed the Code of Conduct.
Examples of this include:
- Unlawfully discriminating against someone
- Failing to declare a personal/prejudicial interest
- Bullying
- Failing to treat people with respect
- Using their position improperly, to their own or someone else's advantage.
For more information about behaviour covered by the Code of Conduct please visit the Standards Board for England's website at
