The role of the department can be broken down as follows:
Housing
To periodically review the housing needs of the Borough residents, to prepare appropriate strategies to address those needs and to liase with the Housing Corporation, Registered Social Landlords and other relevant agencies to secure the provision of housing to meet identified needs.
This includes;
- The provision of 500 new social rented homes over the next five years
- Development of supported housing schemes to meet the housing and care needs of vulnerable groups
- Implementation of the homelessness strategy
- Development of referral protocols and procedures between housing providers, care agencies and institutions
- Maintaining housing standards in private rented housing
- Home energy conservation
Monitoring of Housing and Related Services
Along with the transfer of the council's housing stock to Severnside Housing, the Council has contracted with the company to administer the Council's duties in respect of homelessness, housing allocations, housing advice and CCTV. These contracts are monitored to ensure delivery of the Council's obligations and service standards.
Private Sector Improvement Grants
Administration of private sector Housing Assistance including Housing Renewal Grants and Disabled Facilities Grants. Hosting and supporting the newly established County Wide Home Improvement Agency, Shropshire Care and Repair, and developing new services to assist private owners maintain their homes.
