Smoking Information and Goodie Stall - No Smoking Day, 12th March 2008
We booked a stall in the Darwin Shopping Centre on the No Smoking Day 2008. We had:
- Anti-Smoking Posters from the Primary School competitions,
- Carbon monoxide readings,
- Saving calculators,
- Balloons,
- Money boxes,
- Sponsorship forms,
- Help2Quit and SmokeFree information.
The Stall Results
- We had over 50 people come past the stall, most wanting to see how high their carbon monoxide readings were.
- Most people taking information of 'how to quit' away with them when they had their carbon monoxide results.
- Most people we talked to were social smokers - which was surprising now the Smokefree Regulations have come in and people have to go outside in the wind and rain!
-
We also had two gentlemen tell us their brave stories of the long term serious effects of smoking, one gent had lung cancer, and the other with lung and throat problems. Both were only middle aged.
Charity Sponsorship - Sponsored Quit
We are asking people if they would consider giving up smoking for the week, if not to help quit for good, just to raise some funds for charity! If you are interested, download and print off the Sponsorship form below.
You can also set up an online donation sponsorship webpage at http://www.justgiving.com/. If you tell us we would love to add you to our webpage and tell your story, and hopefully raise some funds!
On 11th and 12th March 2008, Health Promotion staff were on Pride Hill giving on the Sponsered Quit forms. We gave out about 20 to willing quitters, and also left some in the Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre and the Guildhall Reception for passers-by.
