Wasps

wasp

The Borough Council deals with wasps on a rechargeable basis.

During April large wasps may be seen these are the over wintering fertilised queens which are emerging from their hibernating quarters.
They will be searching for a suitable site to begin building a nest for the summer period.

By July the nest is established and the workers are quite visible.

In August/September the nest is at its peak and generates 2/3000 worker wasps.

During September the rearing of queens for next year has been done and workers can be found feeding on fruit.  This is when they become most troublesome.

As the summer closes and the colder autumn days become more established this destroys the workers and queens.
