Municipal Funerals

If someone dies and there are no relatives, friends or provision for a funeral, the Council has a duty to meet the costs of a basic funeral.  The Hospital or Funeral Director will contact the Council to arrange this.

Help Covering Funeral Costs

If you are responsible for arranging the funeral of someone but you are having financial difficulties, you may be able to get help with the funeral costs.  The Jobcentre, part of the Department of Work and Pensions, is responsible for issuing Funeral Payments.  You should contact the Jobcentre in the first instance to discuss your circumstances, and they will be able to advise you on financial help available to you.
