Darwin Memorial Attracts Major Sponsor

Release Date: 22/09/2008

The project to create a lasting memorial to the Darwin Bicentennial Celebrations has attracted a major sponsor.
Aggregate Industries UK Ltd has announced its willingness to support the scheme with substantial donations of materials and expertise.

The memorial, Quantum Leap, and the surrounding Geo Garden will reflect the variety of stone in Shropshire as it interprets the county’s remarkable geological story. Securing a partner with access to all-important raw materials is a major coup.
In addition to providing valuable geological advice, Aggregate Industries will also supply various products to the project.

Speaking about the announcement Cllr Charles Armstrong commented:
“I am delighted that Aggregate Industries has agreed to work with us on this exciting scheme. This is a prestigious project. Quantum Leap and the Geo Park will become an asset to the town and its residents and support of this magnitude underlines its significance.”

David Hopkins, Director of Geological Services for Aggregate Industries added:
“This is a wonderful project that will benefit the residents living in Darwin's hometown and we are delighted to be able to assist the council. Darwin is a fascinating historical figure and, although well known for his theory of evolution, is less well known as an enthusiastic geologist.”

Quantum Leap is due to be unveiled on the 12th February 2009 to mark Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday.
