Shrewsbury and Atcham’s Mayor, Mr Roger Evans is about to end his term of Office as arrangements are being finalised for the election of a new Mayor.
The new Mayor, Councillor John Cooke, will be elected at a traditional civic ceremony at the Music Hall at 10.30 am on Thursday, 17th May 2007. The ceremony at the Music Hall is open to the public but, anyone wishing to attend should get there early, as seats are limited.
On Sunday 20th May 2007, the new Mayor, together with a number of former Mayors and other dignitaries will be taking part in a parade from the Music Hall at 11.10 am to a service at St Chad’s Church. The Volunteer Band of the West Midlands Regiment will lead the parade. At the end of the service at St Chad’s the parade will return to the Square at approximately 12.45 pm.
Councillor Cooke said “a large number of seats are kept free at the Church for anyone wishing to attend and I hope that many of the Borough’s residents will support the occasion, as their attendance will be most welcome”.
At the conclusion, those present will be invited to take part in the Loving Cup Ceremony and will have the opportunity to see the Council’s Silver Collection on display at the Music Hall.
