Swimmers who participated in Swimathon 2008 at The Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre in Shrewsbury have raised £2,182 for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation. This money contributed to almost £1.7 million raised across the UK and will help ensure terminally ill patients receive the best possible end-of-life care free of charge.
Tony Power, Operations Manager from The Quarry Swimming and Fitness
Centre said: “Shrewsbury Leisure are delighted that so many local people got in and swam for Marie Curie Cancer Care and we are thrilled with how much money was raised. Swimathon was a really fun event to organize and it brought out a fantastic community spirit at the pool. Now we’re looking forward to an even better turnout for next year’s Swimathon on Saturday 18th April 2009!”
70% of funds raised by participants in the 2008 Swimathon will be used by Marie Curie Cancer Care and the remaining 30% will be used by The Swimathon Foundation.
