Parish of Hughley
- Church Preen
- Kenley
The Parish of Hughley consists of 906 ha (3.5 square miles) of farm and woodland with Hughley Brook running through the village which lies within an AONB. The village is situate below the noted Wenlock Edge, well known for its white limestone. A site in Hughley Brook has been made a geological world standard for dating limestone. The church is mentioned in A E Houseman's "Shropshire Lad" and parts of it date from the 15th century. Its clock was presented to the Parish by the Earl of Bradford when his horse won the Derby in 1892. The houses vary from the old black and white manor house to modern day dwellings. There have been some building conversions and some commercial development allowed. The Parish Council considers that there is scope for further conversion of redundant buildings for living accommodation for young people.
