Shrewsbury Sports Village Site Visit October 2005

On Tuesday 25th October 2005 local people who regularly attend the Sports Village monthly public meetings were given a tour of the new Sports Village site by Cllr Charles Armstrong, Portfolio for Capital Projects, Julie Kelly SABC Project Manager and Bluestone Project Manager Jon Mills.

The rain and darkness held off just long enough for the group of 6 to view the latest developments of the main sports hall, pitches and cycle track. Extensive work has happened since the last newsletter with highway improvements progressing well, mechanical and electrical work beginning, whilst brickwork has commenced on the grandstand.

John Edwards, a local resident who regularly attends the monthly meetings had this to say of the visit: "My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our guided walk around the new Sports Village, thanks to all who made it possible. Everyone on the tour was very impressed with what we saw... I never dreamt that I would see the day when I would witness such a world class facility being built here. The planners and everyone involved should be very proud of whatever part they have played in making this magnificent facility into a reality. I firmly believe it will make a difference to the behaviour of our youth for many, many years to come. Well done SABC."

The visit was part of a series at the Sports Village in October. Councillors also had the opportunity to see the development take shape. Cllr Charles Armstrong commented: "the project is now at the halfway stage and it is fantastic to see the progress made on site. The finished development will be a flagship sporting facility serving the needs of all borough residents and something that Shrewsbury can be really proud of."
