Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can the Council tell me who owns a particular area of land?
The Council does not have records of land ownership. This can only be checked via an individuals deeds or at the Land Registry in Telford
2. Are there any new housing developments or plots of land available?
The Council does not have such a list, you should contact local estate agents.
3. Are there any new road proposals which might affect my home?
You should contact Shropshire County Council, who are the highway authority for this area.
4. How high can my neighbour grow his Leylandii trees?
As high as he wants. You may have a right to light, but this can only be determined by a solicitor, it is not a matter for the Council.
Before resorting to legal measures, we would always advise approaching your neighbour to discuss the matter.
5. Can I cut my neighbours tree which overhangs my garden?
As above, we suggest that you talk to your neighbour before taking any action.
If the tree is protected or in a conservation area, then permission is needed from this Council ( contact our trees team on on 01743 281318 or planningconservation@shrewsbury.gov.uk ).
If it is not protected, we recommend that you seek advice from a solicitor.
6. Can I park a boat or caravan in my front drive or garden.
You do not need planning permission.
You should check your deeds, there may be restrictions or covenants which prevent you parking certain types of vehicle on your premises.
In any case you should ensure that you do not cause an obstruction to any road or footway.
