Regional Spatial Strategy

The West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy is a key element of the development plan, setting the higher level strategy and determining the amount of new housing and employment  development for the borough.  The Regional Spatial Strategy is currently undergoing Phase 2 of its revision.  Further details about the existing RSS incorporating the Phase 1 revision, the ongoing Phase 2 revision and the start of the Phase 3 revision, can be found on the West Midlands Regional Assembly website.

                                            

Local Plan

The Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Local Plan sets out detailed policies to direct and control development in the Borough.  It consists of:
  • a Written Statement outlining all current local planning policies (downloadable under menu on the left hand side of this page)
  • Proposals Maps (Town Centre Inset, Urban Area, Village Inset and Borough Wide Maps) identifying areas of land affected by any particular policy or proposal (downloadable under menu on the left hand side of this page).

Amendment of Affordable Housing Policy

Increasing priority is being given to the affordable housing issue nationally and locally.  Consequently Local Plan Policy HS7: Exceptions Housing Schemes and Policy HS8: Affordable Housing Within New Housing Developments were amended in July 2005 and have been replaced by Interim Affordable Housing Policies, HS7 and HS8.

 

Revised (saved) Policies

From 27th September 2007, the policies of the Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Local Plan have either been 'saved' or have 'expired'. A list of the saved and expired policies is available.

 

Revised North West Relief Road

It should also be noted that the provisional route for the proposed North West Relief Road as shown on the Proposals Map has now been changed. The preferred route is on Shropshire County Council's website. Please contact their Transport Planning Department for further details:
