Service Standards - Building Control

We will

  • Work to implement the standards of ISO 9000-2000 quality management system
  • Work within and implement the stated requirements of the building control policy
  • Provide an efficient, cost effective, value for money service to our customers
  • Implement the standards and requirements of Building Regulations fairly and professionally
  • Implement and enforce building standards on site fairly and professionally
  • Implement charges fairly and equitably
  • Provide a professional and friendly welcome to all our customers
  • Implement safety standards and procedures in relation to dangerous structures and demolitions
  • Provide clear and accurate written and verbal advice to users of the service
  • Implement the findings of the best value review and 5 year action plan
  • Monitor our service to our customers by means of continuous surveys and implement changes where appropriate
  • Continue to hold meetings and seminars to update users of the service
  • Continue to work in partnership with current partners and actively seek new partnership arrangements
  • Update the building control website to ensure information is current and applicable

We aim to

  • Determine 100% of applications and notify applicants of decisions within statutory time limits
  • Determine 50% of all applications within three working weeks
  • Carry out 100% of site inspections within statutory time limits
  • Respond to 100% of requests to attend dangerous structures within 2 hours
  • Answer phone calls within 5 rings within normal office hours and provide a voice mail service where officers are unavailable
  • Provide same day answering to voice mail messages
  • Respond to all letters, emails, complaints and compliments within 10 working days
  • Extend the range of written advice to users of the service
